TAMPA, Fla. — Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold has been arrested in connection with an alleged armed robbery and kidnapping incident that occurred in Florida earlier this year, according to authorities.
Arnold, 23, surrendered to law enforcement on Wednesday after investigators identified him as the alleged organizer of a violent incident that took place in Tampa on February 4. Prosecutors say the NFL player will face multiple felony charges, some of which carry the possibility of a life sentence if convicted.
According to the Tampa Police Department, three men in their late teens were allegedly lured to an apartment where they were held at gunpoint, assaulted, pistol-whipped, and robbed. Authorities claim Arnold served as the “primary conspirator” in the incident and orchestrated the attack in retaliation for a burglary that had occurred earlier the same day.
Investigators said Arnold and several friends had reported the theft of more than $250,000 worth of property from an Airbnb rental in Largo, Florida. Initially, Arnold told police he believed two teenagers were responsible for the burglary. However, investigators later concluded that the teens who became victims of the alleged kidnapping and robbery were not involved in the theft.
Police allege that Arnold’s associates enticed the victims to an apartment where they were confronted and assaulted. During the attack, authorities say the suspects streamed video of the incident to Arnold. Investigators further claim that Arnold later arrived at the location while personal belongings were taken from the victims.
The Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office announced that Arnold is expected to face multiple felony counts, including weapon-related offenses and charges associated with kidnapping and causing harm or terror. Court records indicate he faces four weapon-related charges and four kidnapping-related charges.
Six additional suspects have already been arrested in connection with the case. Prosecutors said two of those individuals have pleaded guilty, while the remaining suspects are being held without bond pending further legal proceedings.
State Attorney Suzy Lopez emphasized that personal disputes cannot justify criminal retaliation.
“No one has the right to take the law into their own hands,” Lopez said in a statement. “A dispute over missing property does not justify kidnapping, violence, or retaliation.”
Arnold, a former University of Alabama standout and first-round selection in the 2024 NFL Draft, has denied any involvement in the alleged crimes. His representative, Denise White, CEO of EAG Sports Management, released a statement defending the player.
“There is no credible evidence linking Mr. Arnold to these allegations,” White said. “The government appears to be relying on testimony from multiple convicted felons who have admitted their own involvement and may have substantial incentives to shift blame in an effort to lessen their sentences.”
The Detroit Lions declined to comment on Arnold’s arrest.
Arnold is scheduled to appear in Hillsborough County court on Thursday as the legal process begins. Authorities continue to investigate the case, while the NFL and the Lions organization monitor developments.
The allegations have sent shockwaves through both the football community and Arnold’s supporters as the promising young player faces the most serious challenge of his professional career.
